Introducing Saltee: the secret weapon protecting your next great adventure

Great things happen when we team up with Saltee Skincare!

We will create your perfect holiday, and when you get there, Saltee's sustainable sun care products offer full SPF protection so that you can focus on enjoying every second, wherever in the world you are.

Even better, Saltee is part of the Studio Wanderwell Travel Club, which means that you unlock a 20% discount on their premium sun care products when you book your trip.

To celebrate their joining our travel club we had a chat with founders Patrick McGuirk and Sam Richardson…

THE INSPIRATION BEHIND saltee

Saltee is all about travel-inspired suncare…what does that mean and what was the inspiration behind the brand?

Patrick - We wanted to bring a fresh travel orientated mindset to suncare and travel accessories. It’s an area where there has been so little innovation and we wanted to share our mindset on travel with incredible products that set you dreaming of the perfect beach long before stepping on the flight. Oh and products that wowed our customers. We hope that we’re some way to achieving both!

holidays that don’t cost the earth

At Studio Wanderwell we’re great believers that travel can be a force for good, if we tread carefully on the Earth. What role does the suncare we use, and specifically Saltee, play in helping to achieve this?

Saltee was born from a sustainable base. Myself and Sam (we’re the two founders) met when we were directors of a recycling business in 2009 - the largest plastic recycling factory in Europe. We had toyed with consumer business concepts and wanted to build a brand where understanding and managing the carbon impact of the whole supply chain was at our core. That dream has come to fruition with Saltee - where we take such great care in sourcing every element of our business - be that our reef friendly ingredients in our suncream or the 100% recycled hand sanitiser bottles made entirely of recycled PET that we launched earlier this year.

The great escape

All anyone has been talking about in lockdown is where they’re going to go on holiday when its all over! What are you both plotting for your first post-pandemic escape?

Patrick - It is so difficult to plan any trip right now but it’s important to have something to look forward to! My definite plan is for a quintessential British staycation holiday in Cornwall (Polzeath) in August but the grand adventure is for some hiking, swimming and rafting in the parks of California when we can travel safely to the US.

Sam - I have family in Corfu and am hoping I can get out there for May half term if possible – later in the summer I’m also targeting a week in the Aeolian islands north of Sicily, boat trips, long lunches and snorkelling in the Tyrennhian Sea!

INSPIRE us

We love hearing about people’s favourite places in the world…give us some ideas for our travel bucket list?

Patrick - The Dolomites in Italy are a very special place. The scenery is equally magnificent in summer or winter and the cuisine is an incredible fusion of Italian and German cooking. Such welcoming people and such awe inspiring views. A great Saltee destination.

Sam - I can’t look much past the Perhentian Islands off the east coast of Malaysia – white sand, jungle, granite boulders, bbq fish on the beach and turtles and manta rays off the beach.

your holiday essentials

You’re only allowed to take a very small bag for your next trip…what’s in it?

Patrick - Beyond my Saltee collection (suncare and hands), I always take a pair of trainers as squeezing a run, hike or even city stroll into my first day in a new place is my go-to way to relax, acclimatise and orientate.

Sam - I always take my swim shorts wherever I go – during the holidays I take I tend to live in them most hours of the day – Orlebar Brown make some excellent ones and swim goggles (again plenty of pairs as they always seem to get lost) between the boat, beach and hire car.
