Copenhagen

A trip to one of the most exciting new food festivals in the calendar, ‘Copenhagen Cooking’ is a celebration and homage to Denmark’s Nordic food culture. Enjoy intimate dinners with top Danish chefs, graze your way around the city’s many street food outlets and markets or swot up on your gastronomic knowledge by taking part in one of the cooking workshops and wine tastings.

Iceland

It’s lucky that Iceland enjoys between 16-18 hours of daylight in August because there is so much to see, do and enjoy on the island at this time! It’s a great time to take a road trip through the breath taking interiors, zipping between waterfalls, glaciers and lagoons, while back at the coast the waters offshore are teeming with whales. If that’s not enough, August is also the best time to experience genuine Icelandic culture and spirit – from The Great Fish Day festival to the firework show at Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon.

Perfect for:

  • Family adventures

  • Foodie experiences

  • Getting back to nature

BLAKENEY, NORTH NORFOLK

Did you know that Norfolk is officially the sunniest place in the UK? While August is still peak holiday season, there’s always plenty of space on Norfolk’s vast sandy beaches for games, kite-flying or a picnic. Boating, crabbing, digging for cockles and wading in the creeks will provide hours of entertainment for everyone. We are particularly fans of Blakeney, a charming village at the end of winding roads where the sea air is so fresh you’ll be asleep before your head hits the pillow. The area is always beautiful, but it looks especially gorgeous in August when the large expanses of salt marsh turn purple with sea-lavender. And if all this sounds like thirsty work, head to the Winbirri Vineyard to try their award winning wines. Sold!

Perfect for:

  • Fun with family and friends

  • A beach holiday

  • A weekend away

Masai Mara.jpg

Masai Mara

Visit Kenya in August to grab a front row seat to ‘The Greatest Show on Earth’. If you head to the Mara River in Kenya’s Masai Mara Reserve you’ll witness over a million wildebeest attempting a perilous crossing of croc-infested waters, dodging lions on the banks as they reach the other side. For a wildlife experience of a lifetime, you can’t beat it!

Perfect for:

  • Nature and safari lovers

  • Family adventures

  • Romantic experiences

Puglia (inspiration page).jpeg

Puglia

An Italian friend told me recently that part of Puglia, Salento, is known as the Caribbean of Italy, with its crystal-clear waters and pristine sandy beaches. Yet despite its breathtaking beauty, the Puglia region remains under the radar of most tourists and remains all the better for it. Head there in August when the region comes to life with celebrations of local culture and festivals, and hire a car to explore the lesser known towns of Cisternino and Locorotondo with their fairytale pointed Trulli houses.

Perfect for:

  • A Family holiday

  • Food and wine experiences

  • Romantic escapes
